North Cheyenne Cañon Park

Less than a half-hour south of Monument is North Cheyenne Cañon Park. This gorgeous park has 1500 acres of unspoiled wilderness. And the most impressive part of the park is the 1000ft Gorge, which is a sight to behold! There are several viewing areas around the park with incredible views. In addition, there are several trails with access for people with limited mobility. The park also features miles of hiking trails and several spectacular waterfalls. We love this gorgeous park, so if you only have a few days in Monument, Colorado, this is one of the best things to do.

Tip: Visit the nature center at the park entrance before starting. There are maps and tips on where to go depending on your ability and time availability.

Monument Rock

Although Monument is a small town, we have over 30 miles of trails! One of the vast is the one that takes you to Monument Rock! The trail is just under 3 miles and loops around this amazing stone outcropping. Hikers consider it a relatively easy trail that takes about two hours to complete. It’s also dog friendly, although you must keep your precious pooch on a leash. Hiking to Monument Rock is one of the most exhilarating things to do in Monument, Colorado!

Tip: The best time to visit Monument Rock and hike the trail is from early spring until mid-autumn.

Dirty Woman Creek Park

Although the name is a bit odd, Dirty Woman Creek Park is a wonderful green space minutes from Monument. The story goes that, in the 1970s, a woman had a ranch on the park’s property. Because she let animals live inside her home, locals started calling her the “dirty woman.” Weird name aside, the park has all sorts of fun amenities. They include barbecue grills, picnic tables, horseshoe pits, and baseball and softball fields.

Tip: The Park is open seven days a week and offers plenty of free parking.

For that reason, it’s actually two rinks and one of the more popular attractions in Monument, CO. It’s also open all year, and they have all the skating and hockey equipment you need available to rent. Even if you don’t skate, watching the youth and adult hockey leagues play can be a thrilling time.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

About an hour away from Monument, Co, is Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. If you’re a fan of seeing fossils in nature, it’s well worth visiting. There are prehistoric plants and animals trapped in time in the shale and sandstone. There are many hiking trails around the site. In addition, they have a visitor center and an interpretive area.

Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course

You’ll find the challenging Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in nearby Castle Rock, Co. If you’re a fan of unique golf courses, you’ll love it! It has wildly twisting fairways and incredibly scenic vistas all around. They also use native grasses on the course, which increases the challenge significantly. The course has been open for public use since 1999 and is just a hair shorter than 7000 yards. You’ll find an exceptional pro shop on-site and the excellent Clubhouse Grill.
