Wellness Guide 2022: Renovate Your Home

Self-care and wellness start at home. If your home doesn’t bring you joy because it’s older, run-down, or out of style, that’s a problem. The solution? If financially possible, you should renovate your home to update its style and make it more appealing and liveable. (And increase its value too!)

The fact is, you spend a lot of time in your home. Cooking, eating, celebrating, enjoying life (and having the occasional cry). If the way your home looks is making you depressed, that’s a problem because wellness and depression don’t mix. Self-care dictates that your environment needs to be positive and uplifting. It must bring you joy and feelings of satisfaction and comfort. If it doesn’t, changing it so that it does in 2022 (and beyond) is a must!

So, again, if you’re financially able, some home renovations may be due in 2022. With a newly refreshed kitchen, cooking and entertaining will be more joyful! A renovated bath can make your morning routine more fun (or at least more palatable). Below are the links to some home renovation articles that will give you a lot of helpful tips and suggestions:

Wellness Guide 2022: Decluttering Your Space

They say that the sign of a cluttered mind is a cluttered desk, home, or workspace. The truth is, the more cluttered your space (work, home, or both), the more problems it can cause. You won’t find things, or they can get lost. You’ll forget where things are or fail to do specific tasks. You’ll waste time and energy too. That’s not good, especially if increasing wellness is on the menu. The reason why is simple; not being able to find stuff easily and quickly can cause you an awful lot of stress.

When you’re stressed, any thoughts of wellness fly out the window, Your blood pressure increases, your brain is negatively affected, and your mood takes a hit too. (You don’t see stressed people smiling very often, that’s for sure.) That’s why decluttering, and organizing is so important.

The act of decluttering in itself is one of the best self-care activities around! It gives you feelings of satisfaction and pride when you’re finished, and everything is looking practically perfect. Wellness Guide 2022: Fitness and Exercise

If improving your wellness in 2022 is one of your many goals, more exercise should be at the top of your list. Today, however, many of us lead hectic lives and have trouble getting to the gym. If that sounds like your situation, and you don’t have time to go, bring the gym home. Creating a home gym is relatively easy and affordable and requires much less space than you might think.

The most significant benefit, though, is that you don’t need to run off to the gym! Everything you need to stay in shape and get healthy. aerobic exercise will be right there, at your fingertips! It’s super-convenient, and, as a bonus, you won’t have to deal with anyone else’s sweat (or stares). Wellness Guide 2022: Nourish Body & Mind

What is self-care, specifically? It’s nourishing your body, mind, and soul so that you stay happy, fit, and well, all year long. Thankfully, there are many, many ways to do all three. Creating a home gym, as we already spoke of, is one of them. Learning to make your essentials like washing detergent, soap and shampoo is a good one too! Eating better, healthier meals, intermittent-fasting, and HIIT exercises are also excellent additions to your routine.

One thing that’s very important for wellness and self-care is what you eat. Your diet and the nutritional benefits (or detriments) it offers is vital to your health. Eating the wrong foods for your body type, for example, can have an awful effect on your overall health. The same goes for eating fast food all the time, smoking cigarettes, or drinking alcohol to excess.

Now, we’re not here to preach. As they say, everything in moderation. If achieving wellness is your goal, though, the fewer vices you have, the better. Also, the more nutritious, vitamin-filled food you eat, the better. There are, to be sure, plenty of foods out there that are nutritious and delicious. It’s just a matter of trying them. Remember, if you don’t try anything new, you can’t change your situation. If you don’t take a small risk once in a while, you’ll never get a big reward.

Here are a few suggestions for Getting the Proper Nourishment for your body and mind in 2022:

Learn a new Skill, Language, or Instrument

Learning one of these three is a great way to exercise your brain. It creates new neurons and neural connections and can prevent premature aging of the brain. Learning how to play an instrument is also fantastic and will keep your brain young and healthy for many years. Plus, learning is a lot of fun, and the pride and joy you have from learning something new are invaluable.

Try One New Vegetable or Fruit Every Week

We get it; some veggies just don’t do it for you. Either they have a flavor you don’t enjoy, or maybe it’s the texture? (Maybe it’s the way your mom forced you to eat your broccoli as a child, who can say?) But here’s the thing; there are a lot of different fruits and vegetables out there. So many that you’d be hard-pressed to find someone, anyone, who’s tried them all.

The fact is that, at most grocery stores, there are dozens of veggies and fruits you’ve never tried. Even more importantly, many of them are packed with valuable nutrition. Vitamins, minerals, macro-nutrients, antioxidants, you name it! Most of these nutritional powerhouses are also very tasty when prepared the right way, which means learning how to prepare them. (A new skill!) Who knows, by the end of 2022, you could be eating an entirely new and different diet! Interested in unusual diets and secretly healthy foods? Drink More Matcha Tea, the Supergreen Superfood

One of the best things you can try is a tea called Matcha. A superfood, Matcha tea is made from the same tea they use to make green tea. (The leaves are younger and greener, which is why it’s better for you) Matcha tea is packed with antioxidants, helps lower blood pressure, and tastes amazing. It’s so good for you that it should definitely be one of your regular self-care activities. (It’s also the perfect way to warm up on a cold day and get the chill out of your bones!) Eat More Nutrition-Packed Microgreens

Like Matcha tea, microgreens are a superfood that’s packed with a potent nutritional punch. Unlike Matcha, which is usually grown on a unique farm, you can easily grow microgreens at home. In fact, you can grow them almost the entire year, as long as you can give them some sunlight every day. Microgreens are super-delicious in salads, soups, and many of your fave recipes. They’re loaded with antioxidants and healthy chlorophyll, too, and most have a genuinely delectable taste. If you’d like to find out more about growing and storing microgreens, take a look at our article on How to Store Microgreens.

Start Drinking a Daily Green Smoothie

One of the best ways to start your day is to prepare yourself a big, green smoothie. Now, the name here is actually a misnomer. A ‘green smoothie’ can look green if you put in spinach or the microgreens mentioned above. However, you can also make a strawberry smoothie that’s bright red or a mango smoothie that turns yellow. Frankly, the color doesn’t matter nearly as much as the ingredients you use. Below are a few of the best you can put in a smoothie for delicious and nutritious results:

  • Blueberries – One of nature’s best brain foods.
  • Walnuts- Great for the brain too.
  • Spinach and Kale- Loaded with chlorophyll and antioxidants
  • Maca- The famous energy-producing root from Peru.
  • Bananas- They make your smoothie more creamy.
  • Nonfat Yogurt- For the calcium and probiotics.
  • Coconut or Rice Milk as the base. Delicious and nutritious.
  • Chia and Flax seeds- They’re both filled with nutritious goodness!
  • Mango- Extremely high in vitamin-C

There are, to be sure, plenty of other nutrition-filled ingredients you can out in a smoothie. You can try different things yourself, seeing what you like best along the way. Our suggestion; get a smoothie cookbook. That way, you’ll have plenty of options and get expert smoothie advice. Wellness Guide 2022: Plan Healthy Treats

When trying to create a new wellness routine, one of the biggest hurdles is snacking. Many of us simply weren’t made to eat three meals a day and nothing more. So, during the day, we snack. (And snack, and snack, and…well, you get the idea.) The problem here is that all those snacks can add up. The even bigger problem is that, in many cases, those snacks aren’t exactly what you’d call ‘health food.’

A better idea is to make healthy snacks ahead of time. That way, when you’re feeling peckish, you have them to eat and not ‘junk food.’ You can make, for example, low-sugar cookies. Or make some plain popcorn (with a tiny bit of salt). It would be best if you also kept plenty of healthy snacks at home so that, when you do snack, it’s good for you. Here’s a list of some of the most nutritious snacks;

  • Plain, low-fat yogurt- You can eat it plain or do like we do and add fresh fruit.
  • Any kind of nuts. A wide variety is the best.
  • Any type of fresh fruit.
  • Celery sticks and cucumber, You can dip both into, for example, hummus or guacamole. (They’re both much healthier and tastier than chips.)

What is self-care? It’s eating good food regularly and eating ‘junk’ food only once in a blue moon. If you’re interested in finding out how to store things you snack on, including cinnamon rolls, take a look at our article on How to Store Cinnamon Rolls. Wellness Guide 2022: It’s About Self-Care

There’s an old saying that goes like this; practice makes perfect. As with anything else in life, the more you practice wellness, the easier it gets. When you’re just starting, it might be a little challenging at first. New foods, new routines, and new experiences await you, though, so that’s a plus! But, again, practice is a must.

You can’t eat better, for example, if you don’t practice cooking with new foods. So, again, if wellness and self-care are your goals for 2022, make sure to practice what you preach. Learn that new skill. Cook those new foods. Practice swinging those new kettlebells. The more you practice all these self-care activities, the easier it becomes, and the easier it is to stay healthy and well all year.

Wellness Guide 2022: Take Care of Your Soul

It’s not always easy and, sometimes, is incredibly painful. That can be a big burden on your soul, weighing it down with negative thoughts. That’s why, to keep things on the lighter side, you need to do things that bring you joy.

Some people say belongings don’t bring you happiness, but a magnificent collection brings great joy and satisfaction for many. Below are a few links to some articles we’ve done about hobbies, travel, and collecting:
